Cardinal Turkson 'bumps the celebrant' in DC

Turkson3       Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, was a featured speaker at a Catholic University conference on ethics and business for the week of September 21. The Cardinal opted to stay at our friary, 'Capuchin College,' during the conference, and was the main celebrant and homilist for the community Mass at the friary.

Hispanic Heritage Month in PA

Friar Orlando Reyes, OFM Cap., reports that the city of Harrisburg, PA, celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a special Mass on Sunday, September 14, followed by an outdoor festival. Bishop Ronald Gainer was the main celebrant and homilist for the Spanish Mass, marking the 70th anniversary of the diocese’s ministry among the Hispanic communities. Later current Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett made remarks on the Capitol steps. Fr. Orlando and the Governor had a few moments together during the celebration.

'Rebuild My Church' Talks Online

Dressler AUS       Eight great talks were delivered at the Rebuild My Church Capuchin Franciscan Youth Fest on June 26-29, 2014, by four of our Capuchin Friars. They had the goal of inspiring the young people to go and rebuild the Church by addressing a few Church themes (Evangelisation, the Poor, Unity, Mercy and Eucharist), sharing with them some wisdom from St. Francis and from our Franciscan tradition.

Our own Fr. Paul Dressler, OFM Cap., from Capuchin College in Washington, DC, delivered four of the talks; our ex-General Minister, Bishop John Corriveau, OFM Cap., delivered two of the talks; and Australian Provincial Minister Fr. Gary Devery, OFM Cap., and his Vicar Provincial, Fr. Robert Stewart, OFM Cap., delivered the other two.

All eight are available on the Australian Capuchin Province website.

Br. André owes you . . .

You don’t know him, but Brother André owes you something.
And every day he strives to repay his debt to you.

VideoShotBr. André Repucci, OFM Cap., has changed directions many times in his 35 years of life. From actor to officer, from television to the Air Force, this young man of boundless energy and enthusiasm took up many challenges and enjoyed much success.

And yet, he found little joy or meaning in any of them.

He knew deep inside where he was being led. And he ran the other way. Thanks in part to your prayers, Br. André has stopped running.

Faces from a Picnic

Now that Labor Day has signalled the end of summmer fun, you might enjoy the friar-faces from this year's Friars' Picnic that happened on Friday, August 22 in North Park (Allison Park, PA).  The annual event took place the day before the celebration of the Perpetual Profession of our brothers John Paul, Roshan and Raphael (see article).

The Cap Corps Volunteers (fresh from their orientation weekend!) and the new Postulants (fresh from their initiation cermony at 7:00am that morning!) were able to join the friars gathered from throughout the Province.  Some shots of the fun & faces follow . . . .
